I spoke in church today and said the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the greatest act of Charity. I read Moroni 7:45-47 to make my point. But wherever there was the word ‘Charity’ I substituted it out for ‘the Atonement of Jesus Christ.’ See if these scripture verses now have new meaning for you:

“And the Atonement of Jesus Christ suffererth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth in the truth,

[The Atonement of Jesus Christ] beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not the Atonement of Jesus Christ, ye are nothing, for the Atonement of Jesus Christ never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto the Atonement of Jesus Christ, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail-

But the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.”

So Easter really reminds us of love. The first and greatest commandment.

Crew came into my room the other night and said, “I’m a bad son, mom. I lied to you.”

After discussing the issue and working through it together, he ended with, “I’m sorry, mom. I’m a bad son.”

He was taking on an identity -a “bad son”- that was false, so I had to correct him.

I replied, “You are not a bad son. You made a bad choice. There is a difference.”

IDENTITY WORK
IS THE WORK
OF PARENTING.

We learn this truth from God when he talks to Moses in Moses Chapter 1. God first tells us who He is (v3: “I am the Lord God Almighty…”) and then He tells Moses who he is (v4: “thou art my son”)

The pattern of parenting is tell them who they are before you ever tell them what to do.

And tell them enough times that when Satan comes, they can reply like Moses: “Get thee hence Satan; deceive me not; for God [and my mom] said unto me: Thou art after the similitude of mine Only Begotten…”

And I’m pretty proud of myself. I was able to honor everyone’s requests: Croft’s sweats, Crew’s favorite shoes; Elle’s black dress and my cream one.

When we were dating, Chad said he wanted to marry someone who was strong- that could go toe to toe with him and call him on his BS when necessary.

I wanted someone who would not be intimidated by me at full speed or by my thinking and opinions-someone who would not want me to shrink.

From this candid wedding picture, I feel like we understood the assignment. 🤣 Happy Anniversary to my fierce equal!
